Water shows up again and again throughout the Coastal Escape Series.

Sometimes it’s the harbor. Sometimes it’s the tide, the shoreline, the sound of boats, or simply a character standing near the water trying to figure out what comes next.

I love using the coast as more than a setting. For me, water represents change, memory, second chances, and the idea that even when life pulls you away, something can still bring you back.

It’s a small thread woven through the stories, but it means a lot to me.

💙 A character I didn’t expect to love writing… Rachel.

When I first started writing Where the Tide Brings You Back, Rachel was simply meant to be a supporting character.

But the more I wrote her, the more her personality started to shine. Her loyalty, humor, honesty, and the way she shows up for the people she cares about made her one of those characters I genuinely looked forward to writing.

Sometimes side characters surprise you—and Rachel definitely did that for me.

Tucked along Thames Street in Newport, the Coastal Escape Inn is the heart of Where the Tide Brings You Back.

For Harper, it’s more than an inn. It holds family history, old memories, familiar faces—and a past she thought she had left behind.

I wanted the inn to feel like the kind of place you might discover while wandering Newport: warm lights, coastal charm, the harbor nearby, and a front door that makes you want to step inside and stay awhile.

Some places are simply places you visit. Others have a way of calling you home. 💙

On September 12, I celebrated a very special milestone — my first book signing at Bank Square Books in Mystic, Connecticut.

It was such a wonderful afternoon signing copies of When Newport Calls You Home, meeting readers, talking about the Coastal Escape series, and sharing more about the stories and Rhode Island settings that inspired my books.

A heartfelt thank you to the team at Bank Square Books for welcoming me, and to everyone who came out, stopped by, said hello, and spent part of the afternoon talking books with me. Your support truly made my first signing even more special.

I’m so grateful for independent bookstores and the readers who continue to support authors and their stories. This is a day I’ll always remember.

Bowen’s Wharf is one of those places that captures so much of what I love about Newport — the waterfront, the shops, the flowers, the boats, and that unmistakable coastal feeling.

It’s easy to see why places like this inspired the world of the Coastal Escape Series. There’s something about walking near the harbor that makes you slow down, look around, and remember why Newport stays with you.

🌊 The little details matter.

When I write Newport into the Coastal Escape Series, I want it to feel like more than a backdrop. It’s the harbor lights at dusk, familiar streets, the changing weather, the sound of boats in the water, and the seasonal traditions that make the city feel alive.

Those details may seem small, but they’re what help a setting feel real—and what make Newport feel almost like another character in the story.

It’s one of my favorite parts of writing this series. 💙

🌊 The moment I knew Newport had to be the setting…

I’ve always loved the Ocean State—the coastline, the beaches, and summers by the water—but Newport has always been especially meaningful to me.

It’s where I met my husband, and when I started imagining a romance series about love, second chances, memories, and finding your way home, Newport just felt right.

The harbor lights, the historic streets, the ocean air, and that feeling of being somewhere both romantic and familiar gave me exactly the atmosphere I wanted for the Coastal Escape Series.

Newport isn’t just where the stories take place.

It became part of the heart of them. 💙

I hope the characters feel like people you’ve come to know, the setting feels like somewhere you’ve visited, and the story reminds you that second chances can come in many forms.

Most of all, I hope you finish with that warm feeling that makes you want to call someone you love, revisit a place that means something to you, or simply believe that good things can still be ahead.

I’m excited to share that When Newport Calls You Home has received an Author Recognition Award from Mainz Book Club in Germany.

It is especially meaningful to see the Coastal Escape Series reaching readers beyond the United States and to have this story recognized by an international reading community.

When Newport Calls You Home is the second novel in the Coastal Escape Series and follows Theo Callahan and Lilia Bennett as they reconnect in Newport, Rhode Island, while navigating the past, change, and the possibility of a second chance.
